Just a Number?

So I went and did a BodPod test to get a more accurate body fat% compared to the handheld device I been using. Well my handheld device ranges between 15-16% on most days, so I was expecting something around that. But what I got was something completely different, something I was not ready for.

My results:
Body Fat: 25%
Fat Pounds: 39lbs
Lean Mass: 116lbs

Like I said I was not ready for a 25% body fat reading. MY first thought was when I was a lot heavier what was my true body fat%. My next thought was that I am completely mad at myself and need to get even more serious about things. I am going to amp up the intensity and manage my diet to a higher level than before because 25% will not do.

Trying to find the good from this, I am more motivated than I have been for a while to get this number dropped. I am going to try and avoid using the handheld device I have and I will return to the BodPod in 4-6 weeks. The only means of tracking I am going to use is tradition tape measure and scale. If the weight is not changing and the inches are showing gains or loss then back to the drawing board.

Magic Bullet

Three months from now, as long as things go as planned, we’ll get Battleground Austin. One thing that has resonated with me since the Forney race is the effect something small like a 5K can have on a persons perspective. Regardless of how it was promoted, this race was essentially a “fun run” for all involved completion required almost no physical fitness, and the obstacles were pretty easy for anyone who trained for the event. As the dash nears I have been able to zoom out a bit and simply observe those of us who are “training” for the event. Even though the first Texas race wasn’t as difficult as advertised, those of us going back for round two are training harder. This seems counter-intuitive since I just mentioned the actual work wasn’t killer, however these fun events could be the closest thing to a magic bullet as many folks find.

We all have seen hundreds of different approaches to “lose weight and get in the best shape of your….” or “get bigger and stronger than….” and we’re all guilty of trying one, two, or all of these innovative approaches which inevitably don’t work. They don’t work for us but with each different method there are hundreds of people who swear it is the ONLY WAY. Truth is the reason these people found success is because that program caught them at the right time in their life to trigger the magic bullet effect. The effect I am talking about isn’t rocket science, instead it is just the perfect combination of MOTIVATION and CONSISTENCY. The time has to be almost perfect to hit on what I feel like are a handful of opportunities to actually achieve our goals. For a handful of people The Dash will present one of those opportunities to make a change for the better. Read more of this post

I am not sure where to start with other THANK YOU SCOTT for your program.

fffblackshirtimage200x120[1]Before I get started talking about the program I am going to tell you a my view of Scott York (http://twitter.com/ScottYork). He very friendly and you can tell he is doing this for the people and his own enjoyment and not the money. To me this is a priceless trait and it just makes the camp fun. He works to push you through the workouts and also to educate you on proper nutrition on your road to becoming fit. He also very giving, I once asked if he wouldn’t mind coming to talk to my fellow co-worker about fitness and he did not think twice before accepting the chance to come talk to them. Overall Scott has a very calming and positive presence that when around you just want to push yourself to the best that you can. What more can you ask for from a coach.

About the camp (www.FullForceFitness.net) I have been attending this camp for two months now and about to go into my third and it is completely amazing. I was not sure what to expect at first as I had never done any type of group training, so I entered with an open mind and ready body. I took it easy trying to learn things at first and everything we were doing was simple to pickup yet challenging as a workout. Here are a few things I have gained from the camp:

  • Suffering in a group is truly easier than doing it alone. I have worked out with partners before, I have used a personal trainer, and even now workout alone regularly. But when I am training with my group, they push me harder than I can ever do myself and I also am able to push them also.
  • Beating things is a good thing. The class has a lot of MMA style training. Regularly we use focus mitts, heavy bags, and dummies to punch, elbow, kick, and knee. To me there is no better way to relieve stress than getting to punch and kick things, oh, it is a good workout also. Read more of this post
